5 Questions with Evergreen’s Marketing & Content Coordinator, Monica Boone

Updated: 5 days ago
Evergreen Strategic Communications is pleased to welcome Monica Boone as our new Marketing & Content Coordinator. Monica brings more than a decade of marketing and communications experience to the Evergreen team. She is passionate about helping nonprofits share the stories behind their work and the impact they have on their communities.
As an official warm welcome to ESC, we asked Monica a few questions about her background and marketing philosophies, along with a few fun questions mixed in.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and background.
I’m from central Indiana and have continued to move south. I grew up in Greenwood, attended college in Franklin, and moved to Columbus when I got married.
I’ve always been a grammar and English nerd. From dissecting sentences in elementary school to applying AP Style in college, I enjoy learning about the writing process. At Franklin College, I studied journalism with a focus on news editorial and public relations. It was the perfect combination of writing and connecting with people.
My first job after college was with JCPL, where I focused on community relations. I wore a lot of hats at the library, but the best part was the people I met along the way. The highlights included community promotions at Korn Country and photographing author events. (Lisa Jewell was probably my favorite author event!)

From there, I moved into content marketing at Sigma. My colleague and I built Nursing Centered, Sigma’s online resource center from the ground up. Once we launched the site, I worked with members to share their stories. (Podcast episodes became my favorite format, with articles in a close second.)
When I’m not at my desk, I’m usually camping with my family, planning a trip, or drinking coffee with friends at a local coffee shop. Our family enjoys hiking at Brown County State Park and riding bikes around Patoka Lake in the fall.

2. Evergreen provides marketing support primarily to nonprofit organizations. What do you enjoy most about working with nonprofits?
I love working with nonprofits because they genuinely make our communities better places.
I am passionate about serving people, and I believe that everyone has a story to share. For me, providing marketing support to nonprofits blends the two. Marketing connects an organization to the community by sharing who they are, the work they do, and why they care deeply about their cause.
Nonprofit stories can encourage you, give you a different perspective, or help you grow in some way. I have shared some fascinating stories, and I cannot wait to share more stories from Evergreen clients.
3. What do you enjoy most when it comes to working with Evergreen clients and projects?
I’m excited to connect with all of Evergreen’s clients. I look forward to learning about the people, their missions, and the communities they support. I’m also really excited to revisit my roots through interviewing, writing, and building emails in this role.
4. What's your favorite famous or inspirational quote?
I love a good quote. These are the first three that came to mind.
“Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.” - Dr. Seuss
“Take chances, make mistakes. That’s how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to fail in order to practice being brave.” - Mary Tyler Moore
“Those people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones that actually do.” - Steve Jobs
5. What are you currently binge watching, reading, or listening to?
I recently got back into reading, and my TBR stacks are all over the house. I just finished “Great Big Beautiful Life” by Emily Henry. I’m almost done listening to Kenny Chesney narrate his book “Heart Life Music.” Next up is “Just for the Summer” by Abby Jimenez - I’ve been working my way through her books this summer.
